Fabrication and multi- performance optimization of mechanical properties of novel Babbitt-Ilmenite metal matrix composite using entropy based hybrid Taguchi-grey relational analysis

Abstract In the present study, a Babbitt-Ilmenite composite was developed via stir casting and mechanical properties (hardness tensile strength) of were optimized using Taguchi philosophy. The effects variations in percentage weight Ilmenite, stirring speed aging time on studied. Energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis confirmed presence Ilmenite metal matrix uniform dispersal Babbitt established scanning electron microscopy. A Morphological fractured specimen conducted to ascertain type failure. methodology variance technique proposed predict optimum levels controllable parameters determine their contribution optimization composite. found have significant effect hardness while parameter for strength predicted results validated by confirmation experiments with deviations 1.6% 2.1% respectively single objective optimization. weights responses determined objectively multi-performance performed entropy based grey relational (EGRA). only 30.65% attributes hybrid relation (TGRA). An overall improvement 0.445 0.105 grade reported EGRA TGRA respectively. study concludes that Babbitt/Ilmenite has superior both multi-objective conditions than unreinforced tin Babbitt. can be used bearings crankshafts, connecting rods axles automobiles.
